Printing File Intention: Understanding Bleed

Due to mechanical limitations, digital printers can’t print all the way to the edge of a page, leaving a 5mm white border. If your artwork features images or colours extending to the edge, include a “bleed” by extending your layout an extra 3mm in each direction. The extra 3mm will be trimmed away, so avoid resizing your entire artwork.

Why is Bleed Important?

Bleed ensures that cuts are made through the coloured sections rather than leaving a thin strip of white. This is especially important when cutting multiple pieces.
